NORESCO Adds Innovative Solar Generation System to Energy Savings Performance Contract with the State of Hawaii

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. -

NORESCO, a national leader in energy efficiency and energy infrastructure solutions, has increased its energy savings performance contract with the State of Hawaii to include $2.9 million for a photovoltaic (PV) solar electricity generation system at the Kalanimoku Building in the downtown Honolulu Capital District. NORESCO is a subsidiary of Carrier Corp, which is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).

Funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), the new solar installation is an educational/demonstration project reviewed by the U.S. Department of Energy. The PV system, which will convert sunlight directly to electricity, has a capacity of 200 kW AC (236 kW DC).

"This project already exemplified what integrated energy and water efficiency strategies are all about," stated Jay Johnson, senior account executive, NORESCO. "Now it also illustrates that solar energy technologies are ready for deployment. We are proud to keep NORESCO's expertise at work for the people of Hawaii."

The partnership with NORESCO is part of the State's continuing efforts to make State office buildings and facilities more energy efficient in order to reduce electricity costs and decrease Hawaii's dependence on imported fossil fuels. The effort is part of the Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative, which aims to derive 70 percent of Hawaii's energy from clean sources by the year 2030, including 40 percent from renewable energy and 30 percent through energy efficiency measures.

The original $33.9 million project includes energy efficiency improvements to 10 State office buildings within the State Capital District, including the State Capitol, that comprise over 1.3 million square feet of building space.
