Verifying long-term building performance
NORESCO’s measurement and verification (M&V) services deliver transparent, data-driven reporting of energy usage. Our proven approach helps facilities optimize operations, reduce utility costs, and sustain long-term energy and water savings.
What is Measurement & Verification?
Measurement and verification (M&V) is a systematic process that quantifies the energy and water savings achieved through improvements to systems. By comparing pre- and post-upgrade energy usage, we ensure accurate savings validation and reduce our customers’ operational and financial risks with performance guarantees. We compare facility energy use before and after improvements using:
Onsight system energy use measurements
Performance data trending and analysis
Remote and onsite system diagnostics
Utility bill analysis and benchmarking

M&V Standards
We assess the performance of our customers’ facilities using industry-accepted standards from the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP) and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP). These frameworks guide our efforts to precisely measure energy and water consumption, monitor equipment and system performance, and verify and report realized savings.
Optimizing Future Performance
Our expert engineers use advanced diagnostics and analytics to enhance building performance. We develop actionable workflows that:
Identify and resolve operational inefficiencies
Extend equipment lifespan
Improve system and facility efficiency
Preserve and improve energy savings
Enhance occupant comfort and productivity
