The 170-acre campus, nestled in the heart of the pristine White Mountains, comprises 45 buildings and has 4,000 students. In 1991, NORESCO was selected by the University System of New Hampshire to develop means of reducing the cost of energy and relocating the College's source of steam to the perimeter of the campus.
Solution: NORESCO developed, arranged 20-year tax-exempt financing, constructed, and is now responsible for operation of a cogeneration-based energy facility. The facility, a model of flexible and efficient distributed generation, provides electricity and thermal energy to the campus utilizing a 1,250 kW prime power diesel engine with heat recovery in conjunction with a 1,250 kW backup and peaking engine. Three conventional boilers provide a total of 58,000 lb./hr. of steam capacity
